When you're doing the 100 Thing Challenge, one thing you can be sure of is that you're not going to get a lot of stuff over the year. But it would be unrealistic to say that you'll not get anything. Things wear out. Needs arise. Desires fester.
It is possible that I will get through November 12th of 2009 without buying even one thing. My 97 thing list (or less, if I purge) could be all the personal stuff I have for most of 2009. But I kind of think not. So here's a wild guess as to what I might add to my list this year. Of course, I'd have to purge in order to make room. Rules are rules.
Car - my sixteen year old Mazda hand-me-down is running really great with 110k miles. But there's hints that my long daily commute might be doing it in. And honestly, I have a thing for four wheel drive vehicles that can go places that Mazda sedans can't.
Hiking boots - I'm on the fence on this one. My trail running shoes can handle most anything I'd do this year. But if I got out for a few of the adventures I'd really like, boots would be handy.
T-shirts - I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'll replace three tattered t-shirts this year.
Hmm. You know what's weird? Sitting down to write this list, I thought it would be much longer. I suppose I could see myself replacing a pair of jeans or a couple of button-down shirts. But honestly, I'd just be making stuff up at this point. Maybe the 100 Thing Challenge is actually working because there's nothing too appealing right now.

Congratulations! Thats great! I've started to feel similar...about not wanting things. Only the important things. Put the sleeping bag at the top of your list, and stitch up the holes in your t-shirts instead of getting new ones. Hey, its today's fashion anyway. People pay money for clothes with holes!

I think this is happening to me, too. I am still a long ways from 100 things. I just moved, and during the process I got rid of many things. I made it through xmas with few gifts (my friends are respecting my values this year), and the only thing I really want is a new laptop. I just feel content, and find myself much more interested in spending time with people than thinking about things I could buy.

good job!! you should consider maybe if possible buying those things second hand if you can find it. there are so many things people toss out that are actually brand new or almost new (i find new t-shirts all the time in my size)it would be even less consumptive if you could find them that way! good luck :)
