On Saturday we got a replacement cat. Crisp is replacing Scrub, who we fear has been eaten by a coyote. Personally, I don't ever feel good about replacement animals. Well maybe that's overstated. A replacement Beta Fish or replacement turtle or some creature like that does not seem too odd. But replacing a cat or dog, feels kind of weird to me.
Oh, but I'm sure my anxieties about our replacement cat are nothing close to how our other cat, Beatrice, is feeling. She's thinking, "Two weeks. That's all they wait. Just two weeks. And they don't even post any 'missing cat' signs around the neighborhood." And so she is pouting right now, hissing and growling whenever we bring Crisp near her. Deep down inside Beatrice is a loving, motherly cat. She'll eventually come around and make peace with Crisp. Then she'll pin him down and teach him how to properly clean himself. That I hope she does quickly, since Crisp kind of stinks.

Hi Dave. Just found your blog (via Time) and love the 100 thing challenge. I feel overwhelmed by all our crap and I like your approach.
Also, and I just can't help myself - I want to encourage you to keep your cat/s inside. I used to subscribe to the idea that they were happier when they got to have time outside and could act like wild things. That was until I had a cat disappear (I live in below wild foothills in California.) and had to scoop up a friend's cat after an unfortunate encounter with the bottom of a tire. Anyhoo, now they are strictly and happily indoors. Extra added benefit - we now have lots of wild birds visiting our yard.
Nice blog. Thanks.

congrats on Crisp...I'll miss Scrubby though! So are you back to 100 things, now, from the 99?
:-D

If you love your cat, you should always keep him/her inside for safety sake not to mention . . . you don't have to deal with fleas, ticks, cat/dog bites, accidental loss, etc. I'm working on my 100 thing list and I don't think I'll have a problem as long as I can count my books as one item! I thought clothes would be a problem but it's not. Hmm . . . 500 our things? HE needs to go on vacation so I can "organize" his stuff.

Poor Scrub. I wish Crisp luck in getting adjusted.
